ABOUT HSKY

The Humane Society of Kentucky, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization founded in 1993 to prevent cruelty to animals, relieve suffering among animals, provide education about humane treatment of animals, and reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs.

HSKY collaborates with other public, private, and non-profit organizations throughout the region, effectively increasing the collective impact on animal overpopulation. HSKY’s primary service area is a six-county region that includes Boone, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, and Pendleton counties.

HSKY is a volunteer-driven organization. It receives no government funding and is not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or any other local, state, or national organization. Funding comes from private donations, grants, and annual fundraising events.

Programs and services

Spay/Neuter Assistance Program [SNAP]

As part of its effort to end the pet overpopulation crisis, HSKY offers assistance to low-income families and individuals to spay or neuter their pets. Applications for this assistance are available on our web site and upon request from our office. Approved applicants receive a certificate worth $25 toward a neuter and $40 toward a spay. Virtually all area veterinarians accept our certificate as part of the payment. HSKY reimburses the veterinarian for the amount of the certificate.  Similar certificates are provided to anyone who adopts a HSKY animal that is not already spayed or neutered. Through these two programs, HSKY spays and neuters several hundred animals each year.

Humane Education

HSKY publishes a quarterly newsletter, HSKY News, that provides information about the organization, tips for pet owners, and news about animal-related events and issues. The newsletter is mailed to members, volunteers, donors, adopters, pet care agencies, and sponsors. It is also distributed at the adoptions site, public libraries, and veterinary offices. HSKY volunteers and their foster animals appear on Insight Media’s ICN6 program “Northern Kentucky Magazine”. Volunteers promote HSKY programs and discuss animal care and treatment issues.  The HSKY web site provides information about the organization, links to related sites, and news about HSKY events.
