DOG SCOUTS

Buckeye Bluegrass Brigade Troop 107 is a newly formed group of dog owners in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area who enjoy participating in fun activities with their dogs while encouraging responsible dog ownership and  providing public education.

BBGB offers dog owners the opportunity to get together with other dog owners for hiking, camping, backpacking, agility, flyball and anything else dogs and their human companions can do together. Other programs will include community education, pet therapy, support for local shelters and rescue organizations, and fundraising for local charities.

BBGB is part of a nationwide group, Dog Scouts of America, a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 for people who are dedicated to enriching their lives and the lives of others with dogs. DSA’s mission is to create a nation of responsible dog owners through education and example.

Every summer, at the DSA Headquarters in Michigan, dog scouts from all over gather for week-long summer camps that emphasize fun and educational activities that dogs and their owners can enjoy together. Dogs earn badges for successfully completing events that range from basic obedience to water rescue.

Throughout the year, individual members teach classes in dog care and training, take their dogs to nursing homes, hospitals, and other care facilities, and raise funds for community service organizations. DSA publishes a bi-monthly newsletter and maintains a web site with information on topics ranging from dog bite prevention to crate training.

By fostering an attitude of proper stewardship of dogs and educating the public about the human/animal bond, DSA hopes to reduce the number of dogs abandoned because of behavior problems, increase spaying and neutering, reduce the number of dog bites and attacks, and reduce the incidence of animal abuse.
